About Rich

Rich Hays is a native of the Washington, DC area. He studied Business at the University of Maryland and then went on to a graduate program for Film Production at the London Film School in London, England.  Aside from time working in film, Rich is an entrepreneur at heart with a diverse sales and marketing background. He has a keen business sense of what works and the insight to navigate and negotiate the deal to make it happen.

In 2002, Rich and his wife moved to Wilmington after falling in love with the area during a vacation to visit family living here. Rich earned his Real Estate license in 2005 and started his Real Estate career with a small boutique firm specializing in investment properties.

In 2006 Rich saw an untapped market in NC with a new and unique mode of transportation called a Segway. He opened "Cape Fear Segway", which was the first Segway dealership and tour operation in NC. He has been running Segway tours out of historic downtown Wilmington for the past 14 years, consistently voted the #1 tour in Wilmington on TripAdvisor.com. This is a reflection of his warm and friendly personality, extensive knowledge of the city and outstanding communication skills.

With the tremendous growth and development in coastal Carolina, Real Estate has taken on a whole new level of passion for Rich. As a licensed REALTOR®/Broker with Intracoastal Realty, Rich is continuing his award-winning customer service to his Real Estate clients that he is known for in the Wilmington tour industry.

In his spare time, Rich loves being able to remove his Covid-19 mask in a safe environment and breathe the fresh air.  He also has learned to enjoy the beach on a cloudy/rainy day or hiking remote trails in the distant mountains. Both pretty much offer a good possibility that he won't have to wear a Covid mask.  Rich is an active member in the New Hanover County Law Enforcement Officers Association. He has a passion for life and has come to appreciate all things in it.  His wife is a front line "Hero" who works at NHRMC and has to deal with the Covid-19 on a daily basis.
